The topsy-turvydom that G.K. Chesterton loved to illuminate rears its darkly comic head from time to time in fascinating ways: the western world is refusing to reproduce (except in the Mormon strongholds of Utah and Idaho).

The pope has taken special notice of the demographic decline and will address it head-on at an event in Italy, a nation whose reproductive rate is falling about as fast as anywhere in the world.
