Father Robert Spitzer, S.J., PhD, is a priest of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) and currently serves as president of the Magis Center, the Napa Institute, and the Spitzer Center.

Originally from Honolulu, Hawaii, Fr. Spitzer completed his undergraduate work in public accounting and finance at Gonzaga University in 1974. He joined the Jesuits the same year and was ordained a priest in 1983. Fr. Spitzer completed an MA in philosophy at St. Louis University (1978), an MDiv at the Gregorian University in Rome (1983), a ThM (theology) at the Weston School in Cambridge, Massachusetts (1984), and a PhD in philosophy at the Catholic University of America (1988). Fr. Spitzer served as a professor of philosophy at Georgetown University and a professor of philosophy and business at Seattle University. In 1998, Fr. Spitzer became the President of Gonzaga University, a position he held until 2009.

In addition to an active teaching career, numerous published articles, chapters, and books, and frequent television appearances (including his weekly EWTN show, “Father Spitzer’s Universe”), Fr. Spitzer is a sought-after speaker.
