Joe Kittell serves as Director of Undergraduate Admissions at the University of Mary. Previously, he served as head coach of the University of Mary Men’s Basketball team from 2015 until 2021.
Kittell earned a BA in physical education (K-12) in 2006 and an MA in health, nutrition, and exercise science in 2008, both from North Dakota State University.
Kittell’s college coaching career began while he was an undergraduate at North Dakota State when he began working on Tim Miles’ staff. He later served as an assistant coach at Mayville State University (2006-2007), the North Dakota State College of Science (2007-2008), and Breckenridge High School (2008-2009). After a stint as video coordinator at Colorado State University on Tim Miles’ staff, Kittell served as assistant coach at Gillette College (2010-2013) before earning his first head coaching position at Lake Region State College in Devils Lake, North Dakota (2013-2015).
In addition to his experience as a college and high school coach, Kittell worked as owner, director, and coach for Every Child’s Important (ECI) Youth Services, a non-profit organization that runs summer traveling basketball teams in the Dakotas and Minnesota.
In 2017, Kittell was honored with the Samaritan’s Feet Barefoot Coach of the Year award in recognition of his extensive volunteer work.
Kittell and his wife, Emily, have two children.
